A name that read like a barrier.
The French American International School + International High School engaged Mission Minded to help articulate a brand strategy and corresponding messages to serve the school now and into the future.
Although operating from a position of strength, the San Francisco independent school landscape was becoming increasingly competitive due to a decline in the number of school-aged children.
You don’t have to be French.
A key obstacle for values-aligned families considering FAIS + IHS was the misconception that one must be or speak French to attend.
Our team guided them in removing barriers to consideration—starting with the school’s name— and developing a single, compelling idea that would invite new families to consider them.
Renamed, with a fresh admissions pitch.
The school adopted a new name—the International School of San Francisco—and a brand strategy that emphasizes the educational benefits of learning in a vibrant, bilingual, and multicultural community. This strategy was brought to life through a new website and admission campaign materials, successfully uniting a complex set of academic divisions and school programs under a singular idea. Great care was taken to ensure the French members of the community would see this as a deepening commitment to bilingual education, and a portal to deeper learning, rather than a departure from their language.
Strongest enrollment season yet.
The community has warmly embraced the new name, and the excitement around having a unified identity is palpable. Check back later this year to see how the International School of San Francisco’s enrollment has been positively impacted by the clarity of their new name, brand, message, and admissions materials that has so inspired those who know the school best.
