As you look back on a year so unprecedented and challenging, it can be difficult to remember what hope feels like. COVID-19 has impacted our communities deeply, changing life as we know it.
Yet 2020 also surfaced necessary conversations about systemic inequities that long predate this virus. There is a long road ahead to address these injustices, yet Mission Minded is ever hopeful and thankful for the work—and impact—our clients like you create in their communities everyday. It is why we do the work that we do, and in this year of all years, why we are hopeful for the new chapter of 2021.
In fact, in a recent meeting, our team members each shared a few words and images of what they are hopeful for in the new year. Here are a few:
“Hope looks like progress. We’re in a new world, but the fight continues to make our world a better place.”
“The way we can treat each other and be better as people. Hoping to feel a sense of calm.”
“Hugging! Hope for me is in a hug.”
“I keep returning to progress. Progress with our government, our country, COVID-19, even progress and growth in our own lives. It will be good not to feel like everything is in limbo.”
“We are about to have the first Vice President who is a woman of color in history! This administration is committed to appointing people that look like this country. It’s very hopeful and inspiring.”
“Not being afraid to be next to each other. To hold a stranger’s hand. That seems so long ago, I’m hoping we get to do that again.”
“I’m hopeful 2021 will see us turning from a narcissistic focus on ME and my own self-interests to the collective WE and our approach to healing from the virus, social divisions, and improving global health everywhere.”
