Digital Strategist

Mission Minded, a branding firm that works exclusively with nonprofits, foundations and independent schools, seeks a Digital Strategist to work with us on a project-by-project basis with some outstanding nonprofits. This is not a full-time position, and is ideal for someone with an existing or newly created consulting practice.

It has to ring true without the benefit of big marketing budgets. So our digital strategists have to be, in a word, great.

As a digital strategist at Mission Minded, your responsibilities will be quite varied: planning and conducting research among clients and their constituents, facilitating day-long digital marketing sessions with clients, developing website recommendations documents and digital briefs, creating and managing digital campaigns, writing reports and marketing materials, creating and overseeing key deliverables for client use, and overall project management. From project to project, you may interact and lead contractor writers, designers, and other digital strategists to ensure all client recommendations are fully, and successfully, implemented and evaluated.

Digital Strategy: You know that the secret to success is to deeply understand the needs of your audiences and then to build an online presence that meets those needs. You will lead qualitative and quantitative research that yields deep insights, and you will stand behind your recommendations. With this strategic mindset, you will guide thinking around digital marketing goals, strategies, and tactics that result in specific recommendations–including social media campaigns, email content, website design, and more–that will help nonprofits achieve their missions.

Web Project Management: You will work with clients, creatives, and technical experts to bring great things to life. But you’re not just the go-between. You will do your homework, see the big picture, and can help everyone get there. Web project management may be a natural extension of the client projects in which you serve as the digital strategist, or you may be asked to serve as a web project manager for work already underway or that solely involves website creation and design.

You will often work in teams with one of the Mission Minded founding partners, our web development team, brand strategists, and our design team.

We’re a small company, and we genuinely value and respect one another. We don’t mind being stuck in an airport together on a business trip. In fact, because all of us are based in home offices, we welcome the chance to see each other non-digitally.

Although Mission Minded is a for-profit company, our clients are working with limited budgets and often within constrained resources; Mission Minded project compensation reflects that reality. And there is qualitative compensation in supporting the work our clients are doing to make the world a better place.

This is a contract-based position. You will be expected to work from your own office, and occasional travel to client locations will be required. You use your own office technology including an Apple computer, software, and phone.



  • Act as client lead, while collaborating with all team members in the creation and design of client projects
  • Develop research appropriate for client needs and budgets
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research
  • Co-lead client brainstorming meetings and working sessions
  • Develop digital marketing and website recommendations and plans
  • Write digital and creative briefs
  • Participate in group creative and strategy sessions
  • Coordinate with Mission Minded’s Manager of Web Development and Design to define technical parameters for websites and email
  • Conduct reviews for quality assurance
  • Develop and write digital campaigns
  • Present client deliverables that are error-free
  • Lead digital team members in implementation of clients’ digital plans
  • Manage project schedules and facilitate work flow as needed


  • 5+ years of progressive responsibility in digital marketing
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing effective digital campaigns
  • Stellar client relations and project management skills
  • Experience working in the nonprofit sector
  • Impeccable attention to detail and deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to learn and effectively represent the company culture
  • Highly organized with a strong sense of urgency and an ability to effectively prioritize
  • Adept user of Microsoft Office
