Brand Strategist

Mission Minded, a branding firm that works exclusively with nonprofits, foundations and independent schools, seeks a dynamic Brand Strategist to work with us on behalf of some outstanding clients. This position will also include work in digital strategy and communications planning.

As a Brand Strategist with Mission Minded, you’ll create and clarify brands, messages, and other written deliverables on behalf of our clients. You will work with your colleagues to conduct and analyze qualitative and quantitative research, artfully facilitate brand strategy meetings, write inspired brand strategy documents, act as a client liaison, write clear and captivating messaging, and provide counsel as needed.

As in all good strategy development, we are constantly pushing ourselves and our clients to think bigger, broader, deeper. We like to challenge assumptions. We like to look at problems from multiple angles to find the best solution. So being someone who is comfortable with collaboration, input, and iterative thinking is key.

You will work in teams with the Director of Brand Strategy, the Creative Director, and other strategists and designers as needed. Responsibilities will be quite varied: project management, planning and conducting research among clients and their constituents, facilitating day-long brand sessions with clients, developing brand briefs, writing reports and marketing materials, and creating key messages for client use. You will also spend a portion of time (roughly 25%) developing website recommendations documents, digital briefs, communications plans, and creating and managing digital campaigns.

Although Mission Minded is a for-profit company, our clients work with limited budgets and often within constrained resources; our compensation reflects that reality. The salary range for this position is $58,000-$70,000 depending on experience. We offer additional non-salary benefits (such as healthcare, professional development funds, etc.) that contribute another 20-25% above this. And there is qualitative compensation in supporting the work our clients are doing to make the world a better place.

This is a full-time position. You will work from your own office and occasional travel to client locations will be required (most of our clients are in the Western US). You use your own office technology including an Apple computer (we’ll provide if necessary), software, and phone.



  • Partner with Senior Brand Strategists, while collaborating with all team members in the design and timeline of client projects. Handle all meeting scheduling for the project.
  • Develop research appropriate for client needs and budgets
  • Conduct qualitative research; experience in quantitative research a plus
  • Co-lead client brainstorming meetings (Travel as needed)
  • Write compelling brand briefs and present client deliverable documents
  • Write, or contribute to, creative briefs
  • Participate in group creative and strategy sessions
  • Collaborate with design team in development of design deliverables
  • Write key messages, taglines and names for client use
  • Develop digital marketing strategies, communications, and website recommendations and plans
  • Write digital briefs; develop and write digital campaigns
  • Manage project timelines, schedule meetings and facilitate workflow as needed
  • Serve as a one of two key client liaisons
  • Attend virtual weekly staff meetings
  • Participate in business development for Mission Minded. This could mean in-person or phone meetings with potential clients, as well as contributing to proposals.


  • Minimum three to five years experience working in a nonprofit organization marketing department, advertising agency, PR firm, or marketing agency
  • Demonstrated interest in the nonprofit sector through employment and/or volunteer responsibility
  • High-level understanding of brand strategy
  • Experience developing and implementing effective digital campaigns
  • Exceptionally high attention to detail
  • Excellent critical thinking, written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort presenting in front of a large group; experience facilitating a group a plus.
  • Experience working within a creative organization
  • Highly organized with a strong sense of urgency and an ability to effectively prioritize
  • Extreme enthusiasm for customer service
  • Experience working independently
  • Adept user of Microsoft Office, Keynote, Basecamp 3, Slack, Trello, Google Analytics, Google Suite
